Glue stamps to tops of ink pads in harsh winters

From: catbead1 (libby@twcny.rr.com) | Date: 2003-09-21 02:11:38 UTC
Going way back to post #28252 when a dab of super glue would hold the stamp=
to
the lid of the ink pad was mentioned, I have been wondering if anyone has =
had
personal experience with harsh winter conditions and how well this holds up=
. Here in
N.Y. it is not unusual to have winters where the temp reaches -10 or more =
for days
(not to mention our 16+ feet of snow).

Anyone?

I have attached our personal stamp to our inkpad with super sticky double
sided tape and the tape has lasted longer than the inkpad itself! When we
go on a hunt I usually shove the inkpad, enclosed in a ziplock, into my
pocket with the clues so it is not always treated with care. Even when the
top of the ink pad was shattered, the tape still held!

Stephani, is it flat tape or the foam mounting type?

I think it was Scotch tape- regular, ole double sided tape... Works like a
charm!

Thank you! I'll try this and see how it holds up to our winters.

After a few days of business we're finally catching up on life.

With regards to glue stamps:

Off the top of my head we've done that to only the Gray Rock Extras
in Groton CT. They've not been out for a winter yet but we will
remember this one and provide an update in the spring.

We do like the idea in that it keeps your finger a bit more clean and
makes a better stamp image : )

Oh good. I've been really curious about this, partly because super
glue is brittle and shatters like glass. Which is why it isn't used
to glue watch crystals. Thanks!

I actually glue my stamps to a small wooden block. In most cases a
2"x2"x1/8" which I currently buy from the local craft store, but will be
making i the near future as soon as I get my wood shop up and running. I
find it gives the stamp a good solid back and helps keep fingers and such
clean. I use a glue called "GOOP" which I discovered in Walgreen. It was
the only thing that I could use to attach the "This is a letterbox" sheet
that I had made. Tape wouldn't stick to the box I had decided to use,
nothing. Then Goop and it's stuck now! (grin) We'll see how they survive
their first winter and I'll let everyone know.

Oh, now you've got me ... what in the ... what are the boxes made of????

As for the goop, I've used that to attach my personal stamp [about 2"
square] on plexi which is much easier to cut than wood. And slowly the
rubber is working it's way off the plexi. I think I didn't rough the
plexi up enough before the glue. Next time the plexi will get some
deep groves around the edges to prevent the stamp from going off.

Simple Rubbermaid brand sandwich boxes... The surface as a ver slick feel to
it and the tape would not stick when twisted or moved. However, Gooping it
down, worked perfectly.

Thanks. I never think about the bottom part of the containers, just
the lids, but now that you mention it they do have a 'greasy' surface
to them. I was running all sorts of weird containers thru my mind,
and knowing you are an ex-military man some of them were getting
pretty exotic!
